RUNNING POWER SEARCHES
The Power Search gives the user the ability to search the dictionary for words that meet various user defined characteristics. :Power Search supports searches on whole words, searches on parts of words, wildcard searches, Boolean searches, and searches within definitions. To run an Power Search, click on the Power Search button. There are five types of Power Searches. The first type is: Search the current dictionary and subsection for all entry words that start with a string of characters which you provide. You may further limit your search results by specifying additional constraints using the check boxes.
The second type of Power Search is: Search the current dictionary and subsection for all entry words that end with a string of characters which you provide. You may further limit your search results by specifying additional constraints using the check boxes.
The third type of Power Search is: Search the current dictionary and subsection for all entry words that contain a string of characters which you provide. You may further limit your search results by specifying additional constraints using the check boxes.
The fourth type of Power Search is: Search the current dictionary and subsection for all entry words that satisfy a wild card search. This search allows you to search the dictionary for entry words which contain a string of characters which you specify including wild cards * and ? where the asterisk, *, represents a string of characters and the question mark, ?, represents a single character. You may mix characters, strings of characters, and wildcards in your search. You may further limit your search results by specifying additional constraints using the check boxes.
The fifth type of Power Search is: Search the current dictionary and subsection for all entry words whose definitions contain words which you specify. You may further limit your search results by specifying additional constraints using the check boxes. Furthermore you may use the Boolean operators "AND" and "OR" with this type of search.
